AI-generated: The National Unity Platform does not have an army training camp in China.

Kjnews published an image of people dressed in red jumpsuits, an outfit often associated with the National Unity Platform party. However, the image’s contents are not real but AI-generated.

In the image, soldiers are lining up in a parade. It was captioned to say that the exercise at a Chinese-labelled camp is giving the president of Uganda sleepless nights.

It is true that the NUP’s colour is red. It is as well true that the group has held parades  before, as seen here, herehere, here, and here. However, the captioned photo is not one of them of these incidents.

The Analysis

We looked at the image and noticed that the men at the front are wearing what looks like a well-coordinated army uniform. NUP has no ties to any army, at least not as of today. NUP is big on branding and we noticed that the  logo on the building is not the one of NUP.

We also noticed that the “parade” was at a Foot Soldier Training School; however, NUP does not have a foot soldier training school, but they do have a school of leadership which was launched in June 2024 at the NUP headquarters in Uganda.

We also noticed the words on the back of the jumpsuits of the people in the foreground can barely be read.

We downloaded the picture and did a Google reverse search and noticed a couple of posts using the same image trying to predict a war in the 2026 general elections here and here. But this is futuristic and has not been experienced and therefore should be ignored, as there is no evidence that this picture means it is indeed happening.

The image has attributes of AI. To further be sure;

We checked NUP social media pages, namely TikTok, X, Instagram, and Facebook where they are usually updating the public about NUP activities, and there was nothing about the “parade” in the picture.

We also noticed inconsistencies in the image; for example, in the foreground it should be seen clearly, but one can barely read the word on the back of their attire or even deduce it to be NUP.

Some people in the image were wearing white hand gloves, while others weren’t in the first and second rows. Something that is uncommon for an army uniform.

Still in the foreground, some people’s hands are in half, hence doing an AI detection check on the image.

We also noticed that the people in the photo were not black people; they had white skin tone, unlike in the rest of the images shared by NUP in a congregation with people dressed in red uniforms

We did an AI generation search with Hive Moderation where we uploaded the image we were verifying, which concluded that the input to the  image was likely to be 96.1% AI-generated and 0.03% not AI-generated.

Verdict

Not real. The image used by KJNews to portray an NUP army and suggest that President Museveni is worried about NUP’s army and influence in the upcoming general election is not real but AI-generated.
