Fabricated: Bobi Wine Did Not Concede Defeat In The Recently Concluded Presidential Elections Against The Incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, is a prominent Ugandan opposition leader and musician-turned-politician. He is the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and has become a significant opponent to President Yoweri Museveni. He has contested for the presidential seat twice, during the 2021 and, recently, the 2026 presidential elections.
The claim
In a circulating video on TikTok, the caption shows in text that Bobi Wine “accepted defeat” in an address-like format. In more political terms, he conceded defeat after losing to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Impact of the claim
This claim, posted on 16th January 2026, has 259,000 likes, 2,768 shares, 1,513 bookmarks and 1,243 comments on TikTok. The virality of it has a far-reaching impact on deceiving the masses, as seen in the post’s comment section, especially those with no verification skills
What we checked
We examined whether the claim is factual and real, and if there is an original video to corroborate the implications of it.
Facts
Using the InfoVerifier, an online fact-checking platform, results on the credibility of the claim show that no verified sources are linked to Kyagulayi’s concession.

Fact-checking sources, including Debunk Media Initiative and PesaCheck, have debunked similar false claims about Bobi Wine and Museveni. Many articles referencing the 2026 election are from unverified sources and should be treated with caution.
To further verify the claim, we also checked Bobi Wine’s official and verified TikTok to see if there was an address made on the 16th of January 2026, the day after the 15th, on which the presidential elections were concluded. This account shows no address published by Kyagulanyi’s team. The analysis shows that the last post was made on the 15th after Bobi Wine and his wife cast their votes, and the next happened on the 17th January, in which he addressed the public both in English and Luganda in pre-recorded videos from an anonymous location. The video in the claim we are fact-checking and its content were not seen anywhere on his TikTok, X and the National Unity Platform account’s TikTok and X accounts, all of which we carefully checked for a similar address.
The next line of verification was whether he indeed conceded defeat after the elections, as the caption says.

It is on record that after Justice Byabakama announced Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the winner for the 2026 presidential elections, Kyagulanyi took to his social media and expressed his dissatisfaction with the electoral process and the results, as seen on his party platforms and individual social media channels.
A Google search on that line yields no results of his concession, and no verified news agency has reported on that matter. But similar claims have been circulating online, and some have been debunked.
Through the NUP secretary general, the party rejected the results and the declared winner, which was published by The Daily Monitor, a reputable news platform.
A reverse image search from screenshots taken from the claim video linked it to an end-of-year address made by Kyagunyi and published on YouTube. The suite is the same, and the seating too, with emphasis put on the placement of the Uganda and East African flags and the microphone. The address has nothing to do with the election outcome because at the time of this address, the elections were not yet completed.
Further verification looks into the hashtags on the claim video. #protectingthegains was an online tool used by the National Resistance Movement in the electoral period to push the party’s agenda and have Yoweri Kaguta re-elected. When tapped, the link goes to a TikTok page that had about 55.9k posts and, as of the time of this fact-check, was inactive.
The same phrase can be seen across other platforms, like on X, as seen here. This means this post is undoubtedly disinformation from the NRM party people against the NUP and definitely for their party chairperson’s win, if we are examining intent.
Verdict
Fabricated: There is no evidence that links Kyagulanyi Robert to the claim that he accepted defeat after the 2016 general presidential elections. The video in question cannot be traced to any other source or media platform, and there’s a false connection between the content of the video and the caption, as they are all communicating a different message.
