Fact Lens: Tracking and Fact Checking Election Misinformation in Uganda

Uganda is currently in an active and vibrant electoral season as it gears up for the 2026 Presidental elections in January 2026. This period is often characterised by intense political debate, passionate civic engagement and unfortunately, a surge in dis/misinformation. As conversations move from campaign rallies to radio & TV talk shows and now to social media timelines, the line between facts and falsehoods grows increasingly thinner.

It’s upon this background that Fact Lens Uganda steps in. Fact Lens Uganda is a bi-weekly fact-checking bulletin dedicated to unpacking trending falsehoods, examining how misinformation spreads, and sharing practical tools and methods you can verify information yourself. Through timely analysis and available insights, we aim to help users navigate the information landscape with clarity, confidence, and critical thinking, especially during this crucial electoral period.
Launch of Fact Lens
Media Challenge Uganda in collaboration with Debunk Media Initiative and support from Thomson Foundation under the “Strengthening Electoral Integrity and Resilience to Disinformation in Uganda” project launched the Fact Lens on October 15th 2025. Through Fact Lens, we’re working to shine a light on misleading narratives, unpack viral claims and promote responsible sharing of information.

This initiative isn’t just about debunking falsehoods it’s about building a culture of verification. We believe that when citizens are equipped with the tools to question, verify and think critically about what they see and share, the entire democratic process becomes stronger and more credible.

Edward Tumwine is a Digital Communications Consultant, Lecturer, and Media Viability Expert with over nine years of experience in media relations, content strategy, and digital communications. He has advised organizations and journalists on media sustainability, new media skills, and leveraging digital tools for impact. Edward currently serves as the Communications Officer at Debunk Media Initiative, where he leads strategic communications to combat misinformation. He also lectures in Multimedia Production at Uganda Christian University’s School of Journalism and Communication.
