FAKE: False Quote Attributed to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba Over Arrest of Kenyan Activists in Uganda

Claim
A post on X(Twitter) by user Cornelius Ronoh attributed a quote to Uganda’s Chief Of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba saying ” If not for the respect I have for Uhuru Kenyatta, those Kenyan boys could have remained in my fridge untill the elections period was over in Uganda. This is a warning to those Kenyans who might attempt the same thing, next time I want be as linient as this time” By the time of this fact check, the post had received 106 comments, 243 reposts, 1.6k likes and 25 bookmarks.

Background
Two Kenyan nationals Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo were arrested in Uganda after attending Presidental candidate Robert Kyagulanyi’s manifesto launch in Jinja on October 1st. The two men who spent 38 days in abduction were released on November 9th to Kenyan authoroties after lengthy diplomatic talks between the two countries. During this detention period, mass calls for thier release were called by various human rights organizations and activists.

Analysis
We crosschecked and reviewed Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s speech at the UPDF Basic Military Training School, Kaweweta where 498 officers were passed. While giving a speech giving an update on the security status of the country, there was no mention of the words being attributed to him in the quote circulating online. On further analysis, we found that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, during a media briefing at Mbale State Lodge on Saturday 8th November confirmed that Ugandan security services had arrested the two Kenyan civilians and detained them on suspicion of collaborating with Robert Kyagulanyi to incite riots in Uganda. Verdict: False
After analyis and fact checking from official sources, the quote being attributed to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba is False. There is no mention of him speaking those words at any public event.
