The week this viral TikTok video was circulating on the internet, starting on August 20, 2025, depicting buildings falling, bridges breaking apart, floods submerging properties, and covering roads with violent wind sweeping everything, there are no reports in Uganda of experiencing heavy floods as depicted in the video.
Uganda has experienced localized floods recently in Mbale, Sironko, and Bulambuli. The most recent officially documented severe flooding occurred in the Mount Elgon sub-region (Eastern Uganda) on August 17–19, not in Kampala.
Kampala did suffer deadly floods—but months earlier. Major flooding in Kampala, resulting in multiple destructions, occurred on March 26, 2025, and was widely covered by mainstream Ugandan outlets, attributed to heavy rainfall and clogged drainage.
The claim is a compilation of old clips from other countries: the collapsing hotel by a mountain river is from Himachal Pradesh, India (2023); the destroyed bridge/town scenes are from Turkey’s Bozkurt floods (2021); and some dramatic surge footage is from china 2011 tsunami and others from china in wuzhou city which happened in august 5, 2025 with others from Pakistan ,india and Thailand, Texas USA. Verdict
The claim is false; no flooding has been reported in Kampala as suggested. The TikTok clip includes authentic footage of floods from various countries, combined into a mash-up.
