OUT OF CONTEXT: Viral TikTok Claim That Eddy Kenzo Recently Said Bobi Wine’s Riches “Are Because Museveni Exists”

Much as it is true that Eddy Kenzo has previously mentioned Bobi Wine’s wealth in interviews, linking them to the Museveni regime, the claim statement is exaggerated; it borrows statements of the past and uses them now as breaking news

Background:

In the weeks following Uganda’s January 2026 presidential election, social media platforms have seen heightened activity around claims involving prominent public figures, particularly those perceived to have taken sides between President Yoweri Museveni and opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine.

In this charged environment, statements made by public figures are frequently stripped of context and recirculated in ways that distort their original meaning.

Eddy Kenzo, professionally known as Edrisah Kenzo Musuuzah, is a Ugandan singer, music executive, and the president and founder of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF). In August 2024, President Museveni also appointed Kenzo as Senior Presidential Advisor on Creatives, a role that has made him a target of criticism from some artists and opposition supporters who view him as aligned with the government.

On March 3, 2026, a TikTok video posted by the account @sonixsmlbackup began circulating, displaying a graphic with the text: “Breaking, ‘Why would you fight Museveni when he has made you rich, you have really benefited from his regime, you have plots of land in Uganda, you have yachts at your beach, he has educated your children, you have established businesses on his money and still turn against him, just some anit appreciate. Eddy Kenzo once again breaks silence, this has sparked a public debate among netizens and NUP associates as Eddy Kenzo claims the riches BobiWine has are because Museveni exists.”

The claim also uses hashtags that depict credible news language like #happeningnow. The post accumulated 1,326 likes, 372 comments, and 195 shares at the time of our review.

Breaking, 'Why would you fight Museveni when he has made you rich

Because the graphic presents a paraphrased and editorialised version of a statement attributed to Kenzo, without any direct quote or source link, we investigated what Kenzo actually said and whether it supports the claim being circulated.

Claim:

A TikTok video posted by @sonixsmlbackup on March 3, 2026 displays a graphic claiming that Eddy Kenzo “breaks silence” to assert that Bobi Wine’s wealth exists “because Museveni exists”, further alleging that Museveni gave Bobi Wine land, yachts, business funding, and paid for his children’s education.

Findings:

Our investigation shows that this claim is out of context. Eddy Kenzo did make remarks touching on Bobi Wine’s wealth in a recent interview, but what he actually said is substantially different from, and far more limited than, what the viral TikTok graphic claims.

DEBUNK INFO VERIFIER TOOL SEARCH RESULTS:

We used the Debunk Info Verifier tool to search for the claim using the keywords: “Eddy Kenzo claims riches Bobi Wine has are because Museveni exists.” The tool returned a list of results, including a December 29, 2025, article published by Howwe.ug under the headline “Bobi Wine Got Rich Because of Museveni! — Eddy Kenzo”. The article attributes sharp quotes to Kenzo, including the claim that Bobi Wine “assumed wealth on the stability and peace brought by Museveni”.

However, the Howwe.ug article attributes these quotes to an interview Kenzo gave with “a local YouTuber” but provides no link to the original video, no name of the channel, and no date for the interview. Despite our efforts to locate the original video, we were unable to find it. Without the source video, it is not possible to independently verify whether Kenzo used those exact words, the context in which he said them, or whether they were accurately quoted.

This is a significant concern. The viral TikTok claim and secondary reporting, like the Howwe.ug article appears to build on the same unverified quote, which has circulated without anyone being able to trace it to a confirmed original source. What we can verify is what Kenzo said at the UNMF Headquarters on March 2, 2026, and in that interview, his remarks were far more measured and contextually specific than the version circulating online.

What Kenzo Actually Said

On March 2, 2026, Eddy Kenzo participated in an interview at the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) Headquarters. The discussion covered the current state of the Ugandan music industry and challenges facing artists. When asked about criticism from some artists regarding President Museveni’s trust in Kenzo as UNMF president, Kenzo responded by drawing on Museveni’s long experience in government. He said, in part:

“Even the president is aware; for the period he has been serving for 40 years, he is very experienced; he has seen it all. There are people who have gone there and cried to him their problems, then he solves them and after solving them, they turn against him. Not 1, or 2, or 3, or 4. Even Mr Kyagulanyi himself, the leader of opposition contesting against him, has acres of land in Bussabala, every acre 800 million, he has over 10 acres plus. Where he stays in Magere, he is on 7 acres, each acre is 600 million plus. He has boats on the lake. He has given birth and raised kids who are even in university. But he also says he is not content. So who am I.”

This was not a press statement, a public address, or a prepared declaration. It was a passing remark made during an industry interview in response to a question about internal UNMF criticism, not a targeted political attack on Bobi Wine.

The Viral Graphic Distorts Kenzo’s Actual Words

The TikTok graphic makes several claims that go well beyond what Kenzo said:

The graphic states Museveni “made Bobi Wine rich” and that his wealth was built “on his money”. Kenzo said no such thing. He did not attribute Bobi Wine’s wealth to Museveni. He referenced Bobi Wine’s land and property only to make a point about ingratitude in general, that even someone with such assets continues to oppose the president, implying others should not expect gratitude either.

The graphic says Museveni “educated Bobi Wine’s children”. Kenzo made no such claim in the interview.

The graphic says Museveni gave Bobi Wine “yachts”. Kenzo referred to “boats on the lake” a reference to Bobi Wine’s One Love Beach facility in Bussabala, which is a known entertainment venue, not yachts gifted by Museveni.

The graphic presents Kenzo as claiming Bobi Wine’s wealth “is because Museveni exists”. Kenzo made no such causal claim. His remarks described Bobi Wine’s assets as context for a broader point, not as evidence that Museveni funded or enabled them.

Bobi Wine’s Property in Bussabala and Magere Is Well Documented and Predates His Political Career

Kenzo’s references to Bobi Wine’s land in Bussabala and Magere are consistent with publicly documented information, though the specific per-acre valuations he cited are his own characterisation and have not been independently verified.

Bobi Wine’s home is situated on a 10-acre plot in Magere’s suburbs, off Gayaza Road in North Kampala. He organised a major house-warming celebration in 2007 for the property, which had been under construction for nearly four years. News Reports indicate that Bobi Wine purchased land in Magere as far back as 2004, acquiring three acres off Gayaza Road for 20 million shillings. This predates his political activism by many years and carries no credible connection to Museveni’s patronage.

Regarding Bussabala, Bobi Wine leased 6.25 acres for his One Love Beach from Nkuluze, an organ of the Buganda Kingdom, not from the government or from Museveni. Bobi Wine himself has described the various land disputes surrounding his properties as “another form of government persecution”, stating that all his properties have been contested since his presidential bid.

There is no verified evidence that President Museveni funded, gifted, or in any way financed Bobi Wine’s land holdings, beach property, or children’s education, as the viral TikTok graphic implies.

Methodology:

To verify this claim, we applied a structured fact-checking process combining the Debunk Info Verifier tool, interview source review, claim comparison, and property records research.

Debunk Info Verifier Tool We used the Debunk Info Verifier tool to search for the claim using the keywords “Eddy Kenzo claims riches Bobi Wine has because Museveni exists.” The tool returned a list of results, including a December 29, 2025 article by Howwe. ug. However, the article cited no original video source, making it impossible to independently verify the exact quotes attributed to Kenzo in that reporting.

Interview Source Review We obtained and reviewed the content of Eddy Kenzo’s March 2, 2026 interview at the UNMF Headquarters to establish exactly what he said, in what context, and in response to what question. This is the only verified on-record statement by Kenzo that we were able to trace to a confirmed original source.

Claim Comparison We compared the specific claims in the viral TikTok graphic against Kenzo’s actual words from the UNMF interview line by line to identify where the graphic accurately reflects his remarks and where it distorts or exaggerates them.

Property Records Review We reviewed credible media reporting to verify the documented history of Bobi Wine’s land in Magere and Bussabala and to establish whether his properties have any credible link to Museveni’s patronage.

Verdict: Out of Context

The claim that Eddy Kenzo said Bobi Wine’s riches “are because Museveni exists” is out of context. Kenzo’s remarks were a passing observation made during an industry interview, not a political declaration. The viral TikTok graphic exaggerates and distorts what he said. Always verify claims against sources before sharing.
