False. The video falsely claims that NBS Television announced the death of UPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye.

Claim

A TikTok video combines footage of UPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye with an NBS Television live report and claims that NBS announced his death.

The captions imply that Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye has died and that NBS Television was the first broadcaster to report it. The post got over 4700 likes, 91 comments, 415 bookmarks, and 233 shares.

Findings:

The claim is false.

We searched credible Ugandan news platforms, official UPDF communication channels and found no evidence that Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye had died. The available official information continues to identify him as the incumbent UPDF Director of Defence Public Information, and no announcement has been issued indicating that he has died or been replaced following the circulation of the viral claim. 

The TikTok video stitches together two unrelated videos to create a misleading narrative.

The first clip shows Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye. Its accompanying Luganda caption reads:

“Ono naye awelekedde General Moses Ali wamu ne Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni.” Which is translated as “This one has also followed General Moses Ali together with Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni.”

The second clip is taken from an NBS Television live broadcast showing a reporter outside Nakasero Hospital. However, the original broadcast was not reporting the death of Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye.

A comparison with the original NBS live stream shows the reporter was covering developments following the confirmed death of Gen. Moses Ali, Uganda’s former Second Deputy Prime Minister, who died on 18 July 2026. A comparison with the original NBS live broadcast shows that the excerpt used in the TikTok video features the reporter discussing Gen. Moses Ali’s life and legacy following his death. The report contains no reference to Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, contrary to the video’s claim 

The second caption falsely states that “NBS Television… is the first TV station to announce General Felix Kulayigye.” This claim is unsupported by the broadcast itself, which contains no announcement regarding Kulayigye.

 The claim is also inconsistent with the latest official information about Janet Kataaha Museveni. In a message marking her 78th birthday on 24 June 2026, President Yoweri Museveni said she had survived a serious health scare and was ‘recovering well.’ 
Similar false claims alleging that the First Lady had died have previously been debunked by Debunk Media Initiative, which found no credible evidence to support them. 

The TikTok creator therefore repurposed authentic news footage about Gen. Moses Ali and falsely presented it as an announcement of Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye’s death.

Methodology

To verify the claim, we:

• Reviewed the viral TikTok video and translated its Luganda captions into English.
• Identified the NBS Television footage used in the video.
• Compared the footage with the original NBS Television live broadcast from Nakasero Hospital.
• Reviewed official reports confirming the death of Gen. Moses Ali.
• Searched credible Ugandan news organizations and official UPDF communication channels for any announcement regarding the alleged death of Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye.

Verdict: False. The TikTok video misrepresents an authentic NBS Television report about the death of Gen. Moses Ali by falsely presenting it as an announcement of Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye’s death. It also falsely implies that Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni is dead. Neither the original NBS broadcast nor credible evidence supports these claims.
