THE IMAGE OF NUP MEDICAL HOSPITAL IS FAKE, IT’S A HOSPITAL IN TANZANIA.

Is it justified, logical and indeed factual? That’s the question that Ugandans who have closely followed the events orchestrated by Ugandan artiste, Gravity Omutujju need to be asking, following his online and media appearances meant for the National Unity Platform(NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, to build a hospital on his beachland located in Busabala.

CLAIM

Gravity took to his socials, and to quote his words,

We don’t want anything we need hospital NUP MEDICAL CENTER BUSABALA” 🏥“Nze am ready to contribute anything possible kasita Mr BOBI WINE atuwayo 100×100 ku one love beach 🏖 Busabala”

“A Good LEADER LEADS BY EXAMPLE NOT BY FORCE”

Below is the image he attached to his posts on social media.

This “hospital” is red with a graphic that reads NUP Medical Hospital, Busaabaalawith an umbrella symbol next to the graphic that first appeared on  31st January 2024 and has been making rounds on social media. It was shared on Facebook, and Instagram and used as thumbnails on Youtube.

FACT CHECK:

The image is doctored, “NUP medical hospital Busaabala) as of the day of this fact-check.  With a reverse image search, we found that the image is not from Busaabala, Uganda, but rather from a hospital in Tanzania. The hospital is known as Haydom Lutheran Hospital located in the Manyara region, 400 km southwest of Arusha, Tanzania. Our research also found that Haydom Lutheran Hospital has been in operation since 1955 and was founded by the Norwegian Lutheran mission.

When comparing the two photos, (“Nup Medical Hospital” and  Haydom Lutheran Mission), you can see that the one on Gravity’s online platforms was edited from the the original photo.

We also deduced that Haydom’s photo was used for advocacy and blackmail purposes, an aspect that many Ugandans did not understand, hence the reactions.

Notwithstanding, as a political figure with no government position but a party presidency, Bobi Wine is not mandated to build infrastructures such as hospitals, as suggested by the rapper, Gravity Omutujju. In the case that the Nup president builds a hospital in Busabaala or anywhere else, he does so out of his goodwill, but it is the  Ministry of Health’s role to build hospitals.
