Out of context and Misleading: TikTok Video Misrepresents An Unrelated Speech By Bobi Wine as a Presidential Swearing-in Ceremony

A video posted on TikTok claiming that Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine swearing in as President of Uganda is out of context and potentially misleading to the viewers.

Shared on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the video gained traction of 1874 likes, 51 comments, 174 saves, 143 shares.

The video includes on-screen text such as “HE Bobi Wine swearing in” and “Thank you for voting HE Bobi Wine A new Uganda now,” alongside a caption that reads, “Bobi Wine swearing in. Congratulations President Elect.”

Background
On Tuesday, May 12, Uganda held its presidential swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Independence Grounds  following the January general elections. The officially declared winner was Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who was sworn into office for the seventh term in accordance with the country’s constitutional process as reported by several local and international media outlets including UBC Television, The independent, New VisionAljazeera, and BBC.

Facts

Bobi Wine was one of the presidential candidates in the recently concluded elections. He garnered  2,741,238 votes, representing 24.72 per cent of the total ballots, coming in second, as reported here, here and here . He was not declared the winner and therefore was not sworn in as Uganda’s president. Following the elections, Bobi Wine  rejected the election results, citing allegations of electoral malpractice and intimidation.

At the time the claim was made, Bobi Wine was still in America and not in Uganda. He was not present in Uganda for any presidential swearing-in ceremony.

Evidence

Swearing-in ceremonies for heads of state are official state events that are covered extensively by national and international media therefore a simple search was done using the Info Verifier to establish if Kyagulanyi was actually sworn in with key words like “Was Bobi Wine sworn in as president of Uganda” and the results showed that he was not sworn in, but president Museveni was.

In the clip used in the claim, there is  on-screen text such as “HE Bobi Wine swearing in” and “Thank you for voting HE Bobi Wine A new Uganda now,”  alongside a caption that reads, “Bobi Wine swearing in. Congratulations President Elect.” We also performed a simple Google search with those key words “Was Bobi Wine sworn in?” to confirm if this actually happened, the results also proved that president Musveni was sworn in and not Bobi Wine as claimed in the TikTok.

The video circulating shows Bobi Wine delivering a speech, so we took a screenshot of Bobi Wine as he spoke from the TikTok,  and did a Google reverse image search to find out if the video is from his swearing-in ceremony. We learnt that the clip is old from September 2025, on the day Bobi Wine was nominated as a presidential candidate here, here, and  here, and not of him giving a speech on his swearing-in event as claimed.

Video Analysis

We observed the surroundings in the clip and it does not look like a set up of a swearing-in event in Uganda, for example there is  absence of the  official state protocol, and lack of judicial and ceremonial officials. This  does not match the formal structure of a presidential inauguration. We do not see him hold a bible, or be handed instruments of power creating doubt about the legitimacy of the clip.

AI Element

We also noticed that the TikTok contained AI content.

The images added above and below the clip are AI generated to replicate some of the fireworks moments here, here, here and here that circulated of president Museveni during the preparation of his swearing-in.

AI generated images in the tiktok clip

We performed an AI generated image search using ZeroGPT  AI Image detector, and Deep AI on the top picture to find out the authenticity of the image and it showed 53% AI likelihood by all tools indicating signs of possible AI generation or digital manipulation .

We performed another  AI generated image search using ZeroGPT  AI Image detector on the bottom picture and Deep AI on the top picture to find out the authenticity of the image and it showed 13% AI likelihood by all tools and classified it as digitally fabricated.

The Source

We examined  the source of the information, and found out that the tiktok account “Bobiwine4lyf”, is an account of a Bobi Wine fan or supporter. The account Bio is described as, “HE@Bobi Wine THE ELECTED PRESIDENT OF UGANDA 🇺🇬”, and the content shared on the account is all supportive of Bobi Wine and therefore its content should be consumed with caution.

Methodology
While fact checking this claim we reviewed the TikTok video, analyzed its on-screen text and caption, and compared the footage with verified images and reports from Uganda’s official presidential swearing-in ceremony. We also relied on official election results and credible media coverage by searching using the Debunk Info Verifier, Google, AI image dictator.

The Info Verifier Tool and Google Search

We used both tools to find out whether Bobi Wine was sworn in and the results showed that he was not. Our findings proved that president Museveni was sworn in.

Google Reverse Image search

To find the collaborating information about the claim and results showed that the clip was used out of context. It was an old clip from 2025 during the presidential nominations and not of his swearing in.

Video Analysis

We noticed the setting of the swearing in was not formal. There were no ceremonial officials as it should be questioned if it was an actual swearing in or not.

AI Element

We had to search the video for an AI content because it had be flagged as one containing AI elements and this proved that the image above was fake and the image at the bottom was digitally edited

 Source credibility

When we looked through the source’s account to evaluate its credibility we learnt that it is a pro NUP and Bobi Wine account which shares any content about them the way they like, therefore should be treated with caution.

Verdict: Out of Context and Misleading
The claim is out of context and misleading. The TikTok video misrepresents an unrelated speech by Bobi Wine as a presidential swearing-in ceremony, yet he has not been sworn in. Bobi Wine’s speech is taken out of context and repurposed with misleading captions to suggest an event that did not occur.
