FACT CHECK: Misleading / Unverified: Video falsely claims 40 deaths due to Ebola at Mulago hospital A viral TikTok video claims that Kampala will soon go into lockdown and that 40 people died at Mulago Hospital.

A viral TikTok video claims that Kampala will soon go into lockdown and that 40 people died at Mulago Hospital.

At the moment, there is no official statement from Uganda’s Ministry of Health or Mulago National Referral Hospital confirming that 40 people died at Mulago Hospital.
We contacted Mulago Hospital’s patient helpline for verification, and the hospital representative said the claim is NOT true and that there is no official report confirming 40 deaths at the facility.
The video being shared is also recycled. It shows Dr. Samuel Oledo speaking to journalists during Uganda’s 2022 Ebola outbreak, when he was president of the Uganda Medical Association (UMA). At the time, doctors recommended a possible lockdown for Kampala.
Today, Dr. Samuel Oledo is no longer the UMA president. The current UMA president is Dr. Frank Rubabinda Asiimwe.
While Uganda has recently confirmed fresh Ebola cases, there is currently no official announcement from the Ministry of Health declaring a Kampala lockdown.
Verdict: MISLEADING
The Ebola outbreak is real, but the viral video misleadingly recycles old footage and falsely connects it to unverified claims about “40 deaths at Mulago Hospital” and an imminent Kampala lockdown.
