Fabricated: Okello Christopher Has Not Been Electrocuted To Death

There is a video making rounds on showing a man resembling Okello Christopher being electrocuted to death. The video is fabricated and misleading to the masses.

The video shared by an account identified as okello.christophe23  is accompanied by the caption “Justice for you. It is what you say” and on screen text that says “really”. The video has attracted significant engagement of 25K views, 274 comments, 1688 saves and 1529 shares.

In the video “Okello” is depicted as strapped to what appears to be an electric chair, seemingly in distress and later is seen breathing his last after being electrocuted..

Who is Okello Christopher?

Okello is a 38 year old Ugandan American man who was convicted and  sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of four toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program School in Ggaba, Kampala, Uganda.

According to reports he gained access to the premises under the pretense of being a parent carrying out the attack.

Findings

We did a basic search by consulting the DebunkBot in the Info Verifier to find out if Okello was indeed electrocuted and the results showed that there are no reports or details indicating that Okello Christopher has been electrocuted.

According to the results from the tool, he is currently known for being sentenced to death for the murder of four toddlers at a nursery, a case widely covered in the media and launched an appeal against his sentence.

Given the widespread coverage of the case, we decided to do a review of the media for reports to verify the claim. The findings showed that Okello is  actually still alive. According to the media reports he was sentenced to death by hanging and not electrocution. He is still waiting for that day as reported by NTV, UBC, NBS, BBC.

“A man has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of four toddlers at a nursery school in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, earlier this month.” Reads the first paragraph of the BBC

The caption

A review of the post’s caption, partly states that “It’s what you say” which implies that the public called for Okello to be electrocuted which is not right.

While there was a public outrage on social media during the trial, Uganda operates under the rule of law, not mob opinion. Criminal cases are handled through formal judicial processes according to the provision made by the Constitution under article 28 where an individual is either convicted or acquitted based on evidence presented in court. In the article every person has a right to a fair hearing. Once charged the person shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty or pleads guilty.

In this case, Okello underwent a full legal trial and was subsequently convicted and  sentenced to death by hanging. In accordance with the law provided for in the Penal Code Act section 189, Any person convicted of murder shall be sentenced to death . There is no legal basis or record indicating electrocution was ever part of his sentence, however, the judge ruled death by hanging not electrocution.

We checked the account that shared the video, to prove its credibility.  According to its bio, the account identifies itself as an entertainment account, not a verified news or information source. We noticed that the account shares a lot of  AI generated related content about Okello, which raises the concern of reliability and intent of the account, as such content is often created for engagement rather than accuracy and unfortunately some people may fall for it.

Video analysis

We also checked the video for signs of manipulation or artificial generation  and noticed that at the bottom right had a word “veo” which is a water mark associated with Google Veo, an AI tool that allows users to create realistic videos using simple text or image prompts. This suggests that the video was created artificially using an already existing image of Okello to create the electrocution narrative.

Methodology

Info Verifier tool

We started  the verification process by using the Info Verifier tool to assess the authenticity of the claim. This step helped us realize the video was fabricated as there was no evidence supporting it.

Media Monitoring
We did media monitoring across local and international outlets, where coverage consistently confirmed Okello is alive and awaiting execution by hanging, not electrocution.

Source Credibility
We reviewed the TikTok source and found misleading language in the caption, an entertainment only account bio, and a pattern of AI-generated content, all raising serious credibility concerns.

Video Analysis

A close examination of the video identified a “Veo” watermark, confirming it was artificially generated using Google’s AI video tool.

Verdict: Fabricated and Misleading:

Okello Christopher has not been executed by electrocution. The video has been AI generated to entertain the public andit should therefore not be taken seriously.
