FALSE: Fabricated Post Falsely Attributes Statement to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba

Claim:
A viral social media post labelled “Breaking News” claims that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba said, “The only King I know in Uganda is my father Yoweri K Museveni. The rest should explain where they got Kingship from before the end of this month or else they will be aligned in court and get charged.”

FINDINGS:

We reviewed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s official communication channels and credible media reports, but found no evidence that he made the alleged statement.

Using Google Reverse Image Search and the Google Lens “Select Text” feature, we traced the viral TikTok post to an earlier Facebook post published by Mawejje TV on 10 July 2026. The TikTok version repackaged the same claim with a prominent “Breaking News” label, creating the misleading impression that it was reporting a verified or official development.

Neither the Facebook post nor the TikTok post indicates when, where, or in what context the alleged remarks were made. They also fail to cite any speech, interview, press release, court document, or official social media post to support the claim.

Debunk Media Initiative has previously fact-checked similar claims in which fabricated statements were falsely attributed to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. In each case, no supporting evidence was found on his official communication channels or in credible media reports.

A review of the TikTok account @sserugohassan found that it regularly publishes videos labelled as “Breaking News” on political issues. Several of these posts contain claims that are not accompanied by verifiable sources, underscoring the need for viewers to independently verify such content before accepting or sharing it.

Methodology:

To reach these findings, we used the following steps:

  • Reviewed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s verified communication channels for any record of the alleged statement.
  • Conducted targeted keyword searches to identify credible media coverage or official records related to the claim.
  • Used Google Reverse Image Search and the Google Lens “Select Text” feature to trace the origin and spread of the viral social media posts.
  • Examined the Facebook and TikTok posts for publication details, context, and source attribution.
  • Cross-checked the claim against publicly available information to determine whether it could be independently verified.

Verdict:
False. There is no evidence that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba made the alleged statement about traditional kings in Uganda. The claim circulated across multiple social media platforms without any verifiable source and should not be shared as genuine.
