False: Anita Among Is Not Arrested By CID.

Claim:

A TikTok post alleging that Anita Annet Among has been arrested from her home is false.

The post, shared by roxidajunior256 has garnered 2,936 likes, 86 comments, 189 saves, 269 shares. It contains text that reads:  “Breaking news finally the former speaker aninta amonge has been arrested by CID. This evening from her home.”

The post suggests that the police have arrested  Among at her residence, presenting it as breaking news and unrelated visuals to reinforce the narrative of an ongoing arrest.

Background

Among, is the Bukedea district Woman Member of Parliament (MP). She served as Speaker of the 11th Parliament, and is currently at the center of corruption allegations linked to the misuse of public funds in Parliament as reported here and here. These allegations are part of broader concerns about financial accountability within Uganda’s parliamentary leadership.

As a result, security agencies have carried out investigations, which reportedly included actions such as towing vehicles associated with her as reported here, here, here and here. And she has since then made no public appearance anywhere.

Evidence

We used the Info Verifier to the claim with key words  “Anita Among arrested by CID” and the results showed that Anita Among has not been officially arrested, but she is under intense scrutiny and investigation by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of the Uganda Police.

The tool also revealed her involvement in corruption and as a result her  properties have been raided, and several luxury vehicles have been impounded as part of the investigation, while she remains under house arrest.

We then reviewed reports from other media houses. These indicate that Among has  not formally been arrested but, the available reports indicate that security personnel restricted access to her residence during ongoing investigations. .

When we checked the source, it says that Among has been arrested from her home and does not mention from which home exactly. It does not provide any evidence supporting the alleged arrest, such as official statements, eyewitness accounts, or verified footage showing Among being taken into police custody.

We performed a Google reverse image search on a screenshot taken from the upper part of the footage and found that it shows police officers sealing off Anita Among’s residence in Nakasero as part of ongoing investigations. The image is therefore unrelated to any alleged arrest and appears to have been used out of context to support the false claim that she was arrested from her home.

Methodology

To verify the claim, we used the following fact-checking methods:

The Info Verifier

We searched for credible reports regarding the alleged arrest of Anita Among.

Media Monitoring

We reviewed coverage from established media outlets to determine whether any had reported her arrest and there was none.

Source Credibility

We examined the TikTok post and its source to assess whether it provided verifiable evidence, cited official sources, or included details that could substantiate the claim.

Google Reverse Image Search

We conducted a reverse image search on a screenshot taken  of the upper part of the video to establish the original context of the footage used in the post. This revealed that the footage showed police sealing off Anita Among’s residence in Nakasero during ongoing investigations and not an arrest.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence that Among has been arrested from her home. While she is under investigation and her properties have been searched, there is no credible evidence that she has been arrested from her home. The TikTok claim exaggerates real events (raids and investigations) and presents them inaccurately as an arrest.
