False And Misleading: Image Of Bobi Wine Meeting With U.S President Trump Is Ai-Generated
It is risky to assume that Bobi Wine will be made president based on an AI-generated image of a meeting between him and the US President, Donald Trump, that never took place
A post on TikTok circulating with two of the same fabricated images showing opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu popularly known by his music stage name Bobi Wine, seated with the U.S. president Donald Trump is not authentic but AI-generated, hence misleading the masses.
The post shared by a TikTok user identified as prince.sharuma.wa.bobi with images accompanied by text “esawa yona to mean anytime” garnered 19.5K likes, 719 comments, 1563 saves and 2319 shares.
In the video, the images are also accompanied by sound to show the excitement of the TikToker. The TikToker reacts accordingly and another text is added that reads: “Bobi Wine will be coming back as full president of Uganda”.
Facts:
Bobi Wine is currently outside Uganda. He left the country in March after weeks of hiding following the disputed January elections and was seen resurfacing in Washington, DC, in the United States, as updated on his X handle.
“Started my international engagements today with meetings on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. #FreeUgandaNow” reads Kyagulanyi’s X post shared on March 18, 2026.
Chimpreports, a Ugandan online media outlet, also reported that Kyagulanyi announced that he had started international engagements in Washington, D.C., and shared a photo taken in the U.S. Capitol, marking his first verified public appearance since election day.
He is not the President of Uganda; the incumbent President remains Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He was declared the winner of the January 2026 presidential election after winning the election by 71.65% of the vote and now continues in office as reported here, here, and here
Evidence:
We started by using the Debunk Infor Verifier to establish the truth about the claim, and the results showed that there is no evidence that Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, met with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The verifying tool continued to note that images and videos circulating online claiming there was a meeting are fabricated or altered. Father checks into the fact checks by other fact-checking sources, especially Pesa Check, which revealed more images and videos have been spread about President Trump, Bobi Wine and NUP, as shown here and here.
We then performed a Google reverse image search on the screenshot from the TikTok, focusing on the image of Bobi Wine with President Trump and the results showed that the image is a fabricated, AI-generated depiction of a meeting between Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine and U.S. President Donald Trump, with visual matches as shown here, here, here and here.
Results from the search
These results prompted us to conduct an AI-generated image search using AI detection tools like Zerogpt AI image detector to be sure. We uploaded the image into the tool and it concluded that it was 91% digitally edited and also used Decopy AI which concluded the image was 100% AI-generated.
The Other Claim
The TikToker also added text to the video claiming that “Bobi Wine will be coming back as the full president of Uganda”. We analysed the video and noticed that he did not provide a source, context, or verifiable evidence for this claim. Instead, he relied on speculative language to imply political developments that did not occur.
The account is also not credible for providing such information, as it is not well-researched. The account name “Prince.Sharuma.Wa.Bobi” also showed that it is a partisan and a pro-Bobi Wine account. It is not a news source or an authority in the field, hence expecting unbalanced news updates.
We then moved on to doing a simple Google search using the words of the claim “Bobi Wine will return as president”, and the results only showed Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi) is challenging incumbent Yoweri Museveni in Uganda’s January 2026 presidential election and not that he will return as president.
We also did social media monitoring of Bobi Wine, NUP, and the government to find credible information from the Government of Uganda or the National Unity Platform, indicating that Bobi Wine is about to assume the presidency or is returning to Uganda in such a capacity and found nothing. We check Bobi Wine’s X account, NUP’s official X account and government’s official X accounts like Electoral Commission and Uganda Media Centre.
Verdict:
False and Misleading. The image showing Bobi Wine with president Trump is AI-generated and does not reflect a real meeting between them. There is also no evidence showing Bobi Wine’s return as president in Uganda. The claim is based on fabricated imagery and unsupported speculation to push the narrative further. Kindly dismiss it.
